June in Bala-Philly: 5 Ways to Make the Most of It
Posted by Nicholas Cerminara on 06/06/16
With June comes the official start of summer and that means a lot will be happening in the Bala-Philadelphia area. Although The Royal Athena does not officially open its doors until mid-July, our incoming residents can and should enjoy some of the exciting events this area has to offer. We’ve listed five here, but don’t worry, there are plenty more where these came from.
1. Find something nifty and enjoy great food at the Franklin Flea
The Franklin Flea just got a little tastier. This year, the flea market has teamed up with another market all Philadelphians know and love, the Reading Terminal Market. Take the short drive to the market on June 18 and find that vintage lamp or dish set you were looking for and indulge in all of the amazing food Reading Terminal Market has to offer.
Channel your artistic side at the Manayunk Arts Fest
The 27th annual Manayunk Arts Fest takes place on June 25 and 26 on Main Street. As a resident of The Royal Athena, you have exclusive access to the Pencoyd Bridge, meaning Manayunk is practically in your backyard. Why not take the walk and enjoy the artistic talents of people from all over the country? The event will also feature the Emerging Artist Tent that exhibits a variety of homegrown talent from our fellow Philadelphians. You can find more information and a list of the artists attending the event here.
Feeling sporty? Check out the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic on June 5
The race route is 12.3 miles long and travels through Manayunk, Lemon Hill and Kelly Drive, which are all conveniently located only a few minutes from Bala Cynwyd. The day will be jam-packed with activities including a block party in East Falls and a festival in Lemon Hill. Find more information about the event here.
Get a little adventurous with the Manayunk Hidden River Kayak Tours
One of the greatest benefits of being a resident of The Royal Athena is being able to enjoy the best of both worlds. You’re minutes away from the city of Philadelphia and steps away from its natural wonders. Manayunk Hidden River Kayak Tours has teamed up with Manayunk Brewing Company to give you an interesting guided tour of a hidden part of the Schuylkill River, which includes brunch, lunch or happy hour. Check out the website for dates and more information.
End your day with Twilight in the Gardens
Venture a little further into the city for an evening at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG). This “multi-sensory series,” as PMG calls it, takes place the fourth Friday of every month through October. Enjoy live music, try your hand at making a piece of artwork and explore the gardens. It’s a unique experience you won’t want to miss.
If June is this exciting, imagine what the rest of the summer will look like. Think you want in on all of this action? Find out more about the benefits of being a resident at the luxurious Royal Athena here.
